Travis Phillips


— Travis Junior Phillips, 76, of Lexington, left to join his heavenly father after an extended illness Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at ECM Hospital in Florence.

The funeral will be at 11 am. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Spry Funeral Home with Frankie Raney officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery in Anderson. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Mr. Phillips was born May 23, 1937, in Lauderdale County, to Johnie Alvin and Hattie Lee Raney Phillips. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a 1955 graduate of West Limestone High School and an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He was retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Decatur, a U.S. Army veteran and a Shriner.

He was preceded in death by his parents,  Johnie Alvin Phillips and Hattie Lee Raney Phillips; infant brother, Alvin Lee Phillips and twin sisters, Betty Phillips Moore and husband, Lavon, and Robbie Loyce Harris.

He is survived by wife of 52 years, Stella Mary Smith Phillips of Lexington; four sons, Arthur Joseph Phillips and wife, Becky, Travis Junior Phillips II and Lindsay Earl Phillips, all of Lexington, and Logie Alvin Phillips and wife, Angie, of Florence; a daughter, Mary “Cal” Heathcoat and husband, J.R. ,of Rogersville; two brothers, James Phillips and wife, Shirley, of Columbia, Tenn., and Joseph Phillips and wife, Kelly, of Orlando, Fla. ; a sister, Carol Sue Davis and husband, Gary, of Athens; brother-in-law, George Smith of Dunville, Ky. ; three grandsons, Dustin Phillips, Chris Phillips and Jackson Tucker, all of Lexington; two great-grandsons, Lucas Phillips and Levi Phillips, both of Lexington; and several nieces, nephews and cousins and many wonderful friends.
