Cecil Smith

Cecil Gearil Smith, 72, of Ardmore passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Huntsville Hospital.

Born Wednesday, March 12, 1941, in Ardmore, he was the son of the late Cecil Milton Smith and the late Elsie Bailey Smith.

He was a lifelong resident of the Ardmore community and was a member of Ardmore First Baptist Church. He was a long-time community servant and worked with the Ardmore Fire Department for more than 50 years and served as chief a majority of that time. He enjoyed cattle farming.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie Faye Hogan Smith of Ardmore; son, Tim Smith and wife Cathy of Ardmore; daughter, Kim Sutton and husband Butch of Ardmore, Tenn.; sister, Shirley Phillips of Ardmore; grandchildren, Kristen Gatlin and husband Neal, and Kyle Smith; three great-grandchildren, Peyton, Preston and Ann Marie Gatlin.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home with Alan Hughes, Chris Bolt and Mike Davis officiating. Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery in Ardmore.

Visitation is from 4-9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at the funeral home.
