Rachel Hutto

Rachel Batson Hutto, 87, of Georgia passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, in Alpharetta, Ga.

Mrs. Hutto was born March 21, 1926, in Hueytown to Eugene L. Batson and Lillie Morton Batson.

Rachel grew up in Bessemer and attended Auburn University for one year. She and her husband, Hiram, were married 56 years. She enjoyed helping him in her role as a preacher’s wife for more than 50 years, opening their home with gracious hospitality, and always teaching by her example of service. She loved and cared for her family deeply. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will treasure their special memories of her. She was a longtime member of Jackson Drive Church of Christ.

The funeral for Mrs. Hutto is at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with Robert Hutto officiating.

Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hiram Hutto.

Survivors include her son, Robert Hutto and wife Cherri of Alabaster; daughters, Susan Kerr and husband Gary of Bowling Green, Ky., Betsy Pickup and husband Randy of Louisville, Ky., and Kay LaGrone and husband Russ of Norcross, Ga.; grandchildren, Gary S. Kerr and wife Katie, Jon Kerr and wife Elizabeth, David Kerr and wife Anna, Grant Pickup and wife Chelsea, Austin Pickup and wife Daphne, Cameron Pickup, Andrew Hutto and wife Emery, Katy Hutto, Matt LaGrone, Rachel LaGrone and Michael LaGrone; six great-grandchildren; brothers, John Andy Batson and wife Eleanor and Bert Batson and wife Sally; and sister, Betty Jo Rish.

Pallbearers are her grandsons.
