Gladys Eldean Phillips

— The funeral for Gladys Eldean Phillips, 77, of Athens, will be at 3 p.m. today at Spry Funeral Home with Rickey Lowery officiating. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Phillips died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Limestone Health Facility.

Born Sept. 9, 1935, in Limestone County, she was a retired seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Clarice Swanner; her husband, John Thomas Phillips Sr.; one sister, Catherine King; and one great-granddaughter, Maddy Garner.

Mrs. Phillips is survived by one son, John Thomas Phillips Jr. and wife Brenda of Ardmore; three daughters, Gail Henderson and husband Paul of Madison, Connie Beam and husband Greg of Athens, and Shelia Beam and husband Bill of Somerville; two brothers, Gilbert Swanner of Athens, and Leroy Swanner of Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Joyce Hanserd and Barbara Emerson, both of Athens; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Will Phillips, Josh Phillips, Wesley Henderson, Jacob Beam, Michael Beam and Jake Malone.

Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
