Johnny Royce Bailey Sr., 69, of Ardmore died Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at home.
Born Tuesday, Jan. 18, 1944, in Chattanooga, Tenn., he was the son of the late Roy Lee Bailey and Bernice Mitchell Bailey.
He graduated from Ardmore High School in 1962 and attended the University of North Alabama. In high school Johnny was a three-sport letterman and quarterbacked Ardmore High School to a state championship in 1961. Johnny went to the University of North Alabama on a football scholarship. He was inducted into the Limestone County Sports Hall of Fame on June 7, 2008. In his career, Johnny was involved with many business adventures. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed golf, football, and his family.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Southerland Bailey of Ardmore; sons, Johnny R. Bailey Jr. and wife Coni of Ardmore, and Barry W. Bailey of Birmingham; daughters, Dana E. Bailey of Birmingham, and Stacey L. Miller and husband Thomas of Harvest; mother, Bernice Bailey of Fayetteville, Tenn.; brother, Tommy L. Bailey and wife Carla of Huntsville; sisters, Carol Bailey Cooper and husband Jim of Taft, Tenn., and Donna Bailey Malone and husband Toney of Huntsville; grandchildren, Jacob, Crystal, J.D., Christian and Alyssa; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Ray Stonecypher and Jamie Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery in Ardmore.
Pallbearers will be Raymond “Frog” McLemore, Sonny Johnson, Jerry McCowan, Nolen Haney, Doug Clark, Tommie Bailey, Thomas Miller and Christian Miller.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at the funeral home.
