Evelyn “Aline” Malone

— Evelyn “Aline” Butler Malone, 85, of Athens died peacefully Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Madison Manor Nursing Home. Visitation is at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, with a memorial service immediately following at 7 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home.

A graveside burial service will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, at Roselawn Cemetery.

Aline was born in Elgin on June 11, 1928. She met her husband of 61 years, Lee Bandon Malone II at her high school where he would bring a projector for the students to see the latest movies. After his service in World War II, the two were married in Rogersville. They relocated to Athens when Lee took a job with the Army working on the space program in Huntsville.

Over the course of their marriage, she was a 50-year member and leader of the Oakdale Homemakers Club, an active member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and most of all a “mother” to all.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee; sisters, Arvella Holden, Lillie Mae Davis, Mary Moore; and brothers, Preston, Morris, GW, Dillie and Dillard Butler.  She was also preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Ensley Hand.

Survivors include three daughters, Regina Malone and Fran Malone, both of Huntsville, and Lisa Roberts and husband Michael of Athens. She is also survived by her son, Lee Malone III and his wife Tammi of Athens.

She was loved by her six grandchildren, Leslye Worboys, Teresa Hurley, Kim Henry, Sean McMeans, Merritt Malone and Shae Malone; and four great-grandchildren, Katelyn Hurley, Dylan Hurley, Parker Henry and Mason Henry.

The family would like to say a special thanks to Joyce Downey for her care and support.
