Donald Warren Sherwin, 83, of Athens, died Tuesday at his home. He was born June 23, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio. During the Korean War, he served his country in the military, stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota.

Mr. Sherwin met his wife, Winifred McConnell, while working as a printing manager in Cleveland. He was not a well-known artist but a great one. He has several paintings on permanent display at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, at the Alabama governor’s mansion and across the country.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bethel Cemetery in Anderson with Bill Barlow officiating and Spry Funeral Home directing. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Sherwin was a member of the Evangelical Reformed Church in Cleveland. He retired from TVA as a technical illustrator.

He is survived by his wife, Winifred Sherwin of Athens; a daughter, Deborah McCann and husband Drayson of Athens; a step-sister, Joan Houska of Cleveland; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Wanda Pryber Sherwin; one brother, Richard Sherwin; and step-sisters Walene Lutkewitte and Lois Olson.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.
