The funeral for Rayburn Edward Phillips, 88, of Athens will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at Spry Funeral Home with Ralph Johnson and Eddie Gooch officiating. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the funeral home.
Mr. Phillips died Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at home.
Rayburn Phillips was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Lawrence County. He retired from Teledyne Brown and was a member of Woodmen of the World. Mr. Phillips was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and Honor Flight participant to Washington, D.C. He was a member of Tanner United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Phillips of Athens; son, Allen Phillips and wife Cheryl of Athens; daughter, Brenda Wilson and husband J.W. of Athens; sister, Mavis Beckham of Athens; brother, Travis Phillips of Athens; grandchildren, Missy Dean and husband Brad, Amanda Smith and husband Jasper, and Pennye Phillips, all of Athens, and Keith Phillips and wife Eileen of Madison; great-grandchildren, Breanna Dean and Lauren Dean; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Frank Schrimsher, Jack Schrimsher, Keith Phillips, Brad Dean, Jasper Smith, Williams Lowery, Chris Ashford, John Hill, PeeWee Stewart and Blackie Chandler.
Honorary pallbearers are Breanna Dean, Lauren Dean, Pennye Phillips, Missy Dean, Amanda Smith and Eileen Phillips.
