Dr Edward W. Carlson, 94, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2013, in Ocala Fla., after a short illness.
Dr. Ed, or “Gramps,” as he was fondly called by all, was involved at Mount Ida College and Flagler College through many generations of leadership. But, most importantly, he will be remembered by all as a caring and giving person who helped everyone.
He leaves behind his son, Bryan E. Carlson and daughter-in-law Anne W. Carlson; daughter, Ingrid S. Carlson; his wife, Marianne; grandchildren, Jennifer Marshall, Brad Carlson and Douglas Carlson; seven great-grandchildren; stepsons, Robert and James Hannah, Chris, Craig and Curtis Richard; and stepdaughter, Carol Haavisto.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Miller, and second wife, Helen Hannah.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Marion County, 3231 SW 34th Ave., Ocala, FL 34474; and First Congregational Church and United Church of Christ, 7171 Southwest State Road 200, Ocala, FL 34476.
He also leaves behind many close relatives and friends in the Athens area that considered him as family. He will be missed by all.
Services will be Sunday, May 19, at McConnell Funeral home. Visitation is at 12:30 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. memorial service.
