Martha Rice

— The funeral for Martha Bailey Rice, 86, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Ron Oakley officiating. The family burial will be private.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Martha, beloved wife of David L. Rice Jr., passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 5, 2013. Her last days were filled with joy and love that was shared by her family.

Martha was born Aug. 5, 1926, and began her study of music when she was age 7. Her love of music and people continued throughout her life. She was a founding and devoted member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Athens, and taught music and chorus at Tanner High School for many years and for two years in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Survivors include her husband David; three children, Beth Rice of Sacramento, Calif., David L. Rice III and wife Cindy of Laurel, Miss., and Amy Rice Henry and husband Louis of Mobile; five grandchildren, William Bailey Rice and wife Ashley, Andrew Rice, Annalee Rice Patrick and husband Chad, Alex Henry and Lydia Henry; and two great-grandchildren, Mary Collis and Penn Patrick.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Martha Margaret Bailey Rice Music Scholarship at the Mississippi University for Women at 1110 College St. W-1618, Columbus, MS 39701.
