James Bryant

— The funeral for James Miller Bryant, 83, of Athens will be 3 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at McConnell Funeral Home with Eddie Gooch officiating. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Roanoke, Va.

Mr. Bryant passed away Tuesday April 29, 2014, at Madison Manor Nursing Home.

James Bryant was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Roanoke, Va., to Harry James Bryant and Rita Marie Miller. He served in the United States Navy, from 1951 to 1955. He retired from Stone and Webster engineering. He was a member of Isom’s Chapel United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 49 in Athens.

Mr. Bryant was preceded in death by his parents;

Mr. Bryant is survived by his loving wife, Celia Bryant, of Athens; two sons, David James Bryant and wife Carol of Newport News, Va.; and Scott Eric Bryant and wife Tracie of Madison; two grandchildren, Ethan Bryant and Eric Bryant; one sister, JoAnn Clark of Richmond, Va.; brothers-in-law Ray Ramsey of Daleville, Va., and Paul Ramsey and wife Stella of Newport News, Va.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for memorials to Isom’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
