Ira B. Sherrell

— The Rev. Ira B. “Red” Sherrell, 83, of Tanner, died Monday, June 23, 2014, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. John Norman and the Rev. Brent Hawkins officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Welti Cemetery in Cullman.

The Rev. Sherrell was born July 22, 1930, in Blount County, to Ira Sherrell and Nettie Tuck Sherrell. He was a retired pastor, and he was a heavy equipment operator for the State Highway Department. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty Jane Sherrell.

Survivors include one son, Jerry B. Sherrell, and wife, Eva, of McCalla; one daughter, Carolyn Camp, of Tanner; two brothers, C.A. Sherrell and wife, Betty, and David Sherrell and wife, Virginia; one sister, Nell Landers and husband, Bill; grandchildren, Jason Camp and wife, Stacy, Jerry Sherrell and wife, Jessica, Christy Mitchell and husband, Jeff, Jennifer Brown and husband, Dale, and Brian Sherrell; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jason Camp, Hunter Camp, Jerry Sherrell Jr., Brian Sherrell, Dale Brown and Jeff Mitchell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County or Devita Dialysis Center.
