Bernard Sirten

Retired U.S. Army Sgt. Bernard W. Sirten, 69, of Athens died Sunday, July 13, 2014, at home.

The funeral is 1 p.m. Friday, July 18, at Spry Funeral Home with Tim Anderson and Dr. Fred Lackey officiating. Burial will be in O’Neal Cemetery.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Spry.

Mr. Sirten was born Feb. 26, 1945, in Limestone County. He was a member of Clements Baptist Church, a Vietnam veteran, a retired farmer and a honorary member of Piney Chapel Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Janice Sue Sirten, Athens; daughters, Michelle Stafford, Athens; Pam Braly, Pulaski, Tennessee; Amanda Miller, Athens; son, Darrin Sirten and wife Sabrina, Athens; 11 grandchildren; brother, Jerry Sirten, Ardmore, Tennessee; sister, Peggy Hays, Ardmore, Tennessee; close friend, Rick Bartlett Jr., Athens; nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Limestone County Fire & Rescue members.
