John Holley Jr.

— John David Holley Jr., 63, of Athens left this life to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 23, 2013.

John was born March 14, 1950, in Detroit to Alberta Moore Holley and John Holley Sr., who both preceded him in death.

Services for John will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at Solid Rock Baptist Church in Prospect, Tenn., with Pastor Anthony Bledsoe officiating and words from his former pastor, Robert Phraner.  Visitation is from noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service. John was a very outspoken and strong man. Although he had experienced kidney failure, he worked diligently for Christ and continued to serve others and his family who he loved deeply. His life is a testimony to Christ whose restoring power, mercy, and grace continued to empower John’s spirit despite the challenges he experienced in his physical body.

While in good physical health, John worked with young males in Detroit’s inner city as a football coach for the Police Athletic League. He also worked for the city of Detroit, Public Lighting Dept. where he was a stationary engineer, first class and retired after 25 years of service.

John moved to Alabama in 2002.  He was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church of Prospect but also served at and was a member and prayer pastor of New Life Assembly of God in Athens for 10 years. He loved his church family and friends. However, his greatest work was by far, within the lives of his immediate family who he cherished deeply.

His family include his loving wife, Desiree C. Holley; children,  David Sanders,  Tamar Williamson and husband Marlon, Dannon Holley and wife Odette, and Alisa Holley Young and husband Alphanso; three sisters,  Mary Ann Carpenter, Marcella Scott and Sybil Johnson; 12 grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

The family deeply mourns the loss of John Holley, but celebrate his wonderful life and great legacy.
