Kathryn Young

The funeral for Kathryn Mae Young, 61, of Elkmont will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Spry Funeral Home in Athens with Scotty Travis officiating. Burial will be in Legg Cemetery, after which family members will meet at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Ardmore. 

Visitation was held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Young died May 10, 2013, at home.

Kathryn Young was born Dec. 23, 1951, in Austin, Texas, and was a graduate of Clinton High School in Clinton, La., and a retired ward clerk from Villa Feliciana in Jackson, La. She was a Tea Party Club member, an avid Girl Scout supporter and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Welton Vanta and Amandya Mae Glass; daughter, Rebecca Rose Bingle; brother, Billy Vanta; sisters, Betty L. Spillers and husband Glenn and Mary Joyce Wilson; grandmother, Flora Vanta; aunt and uncle, Ingrid and Pete Peterson; and uncle, William Vanta.

Survivors include her husband, Craig Allen Young of Elkmont; two sisters, Diana Brown and husband Michael of Norwood, La., and Beth McCluskey and husband Johnnie of Elkmont; one brother, Ervin Lee Vanta and wife Darlene of St. Francesville, La.; nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.

Pallbearers will include nephews Tommy Spillers and Brandon Wilson; great nephews Cain McCurry and Jake McCurry; and Michael Freeman, Leeman Gatlin Jr. and Paul Pack.

Honorary pallbearers include Ben Brown, Burnell Brown, Michael Brown Jr. and Brent Hutchinson.
