— Michael Allen Thomas of Jacksonville, Ark., died peacefully Nov. 6, 2013. He was born Jan. 13, 1942, in Athens.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Daphne; and his three children, Teraysa Webb and husband Howard, Stacey McMichael and husband Gary, and Jennifer Thomas; one granddaughter, Arianna Thomas. He also leaves behind three brothers, Lavoy Thomas and Gary Thomas, both of Athens, and Ronald Thomas of Huntsville; a sister, Susan Thomas Coulter of Huntsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Idell Thomas and son-in-law, Jimmie White II.

Michael enlisted in the Air Force after graduating high school. He traveled the world and spent two tours in Vietnam. Amongst his many awards were a Distinguished Flying Cross, four air medals, and the Air Force Commendation medal.

After retiring from the Air Force, he obtained his degree at UALR and worked at the post office until he retired in 2002. He loved woodworking and playing golf.

Our family sends a special thank you to Dr. Stan Kellar and staff. Mike not only considered Dr. Kellar a gifted physician, but a brother in Christ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jimmie White II Foundation, First Jacksonville Bank, and the American Lung Association.

The funeral is at 11a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Second Baptist Church in Jacksonville, with Dr. Steve Walter and Ron Raines officiating. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, with full military honors.
