— The funeral Mass for Jacqueline  “Jackie” Westmoreland, 70, of Athens will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Saint Paul Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Athens City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at McConnell Funeral Home followed by a Rosary.

The family suggests contributions to Athens-Limestone Hospice in lieu of flowers.

Mrs. Westmoreland lost her three and a half year battle with breast cancer and died peacefully on May 31, 2010, at her home.

She was born on January 25, 1940, in New Orleans, La.

She graduated from Holy Angels Academy for Girls and attended Loyola University. While at Loyola, she met and married Frank Westmoreland on April 20, 1963. She subsequently moved to Athens where she was active in the community having served as president of the Athens Jayceettes, president of the Athens Swim Association, Girl Scout leader and treasurer of the Athens Elementary PTA. She was an active member of Saint Paul Catholic Church having served in several capacities including lector and Eucharist Minister.

After raising four daughters, she returned to school and graduated Suma Cum Laude from Calhoun Community College with two degrees and departmental honors. She subsequently graduated Cum Laude from Athens State College and joined the workforce at Redstone Arsenal. She served 23 years as a contract specialist for the Department of Defense supporting the Avenger, Sentinel and the SLAMRAM systems.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Frank Westmoreland, her sister, Mary Schroeder, her daughters Patricia Putman and husband Clinton, Pamela Loggins and husband Ted, Paula Wright and husband Greg and Peggy Schifano and husband Joe, as well as eight grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Clint Putman, Ted Loggins, Greg Wright, Joe Schifano II, John Putman, Frank Putman, Joe Schifano IV and Nick Loggins.
