Billy "Wyatt Earp" Stewart

— Billy James “Wyatt Earp” Stewart, 69, was called to heaven on Aug. 19, 2013, in Fort Collins, Colo. 

Bill was born March 11, 1944, in Madison to Paul Stewart and Mae Willie Derrick Stewart.  He graduated from Trinity High School in Athens and attended Hiram Scott College in Scottsbluff, Neb. Bill was a two-sport athlete and an All-American basketball and football player. In January 1970, in Alliance, Neb., he married his first love, Joy Thompson. Joy preceded him in death in 1987.

Bill worked hard to provide for his family as an ironworker and later as a coal engineer at Platte River Power Authority/Rawhide. Bill was a proud member of the Iron Workers Union and a member of the Valley National Eight Ball Association. He played in many tournaments, including several in Las Vegas.

Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army and proudly served his country at Fort Campbell in Kentucky.

Bill was a loving and devoted grandfather, father and stepfather. He loved all sports and playing pool, as well as working out. He dedicated his life to serving others and helping those in need. He spent many hours mentoring, organizing and volunteering his time, providing physical fitness opportunities and training at-risk children. He was a friend to all.

His dedication to his family and those he loved was unparalleled.  Bill is survived by his grandchildren, Brandon Scheer, Aubreona Stewart, Braelyn Scheer, and Bailey Scheer; his devoted love and caregiver, Stacey Scattergood; his son, Tyrone J. Stewart; his daughter, Marie L. Scheer and her husband Matthew; stepson, Brian Scattergood; brothers, Robert Stewart, Frank Gill, James Gill, Gary Gill, and L.C. Gill; his sisters, Agness Stewart, Carrie Peterson, Maggie Gill and Barbara Lee; and his aunt, Lula Lee who is 97 years old.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Joy Stewart; his mother, Mae Willie Gill; his stepfather, James “Bud” Gill; stepson, Ron Scattergood; sister, Mary Dickerson; and brother, Ralph Gill. 

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Timberline Church in Fort Collins, Colo. Interment is at Resthaven Memory Gardens. 

Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at the Allnutt Drake Chapel, 650 W. Drake Road, in Fort Collins.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Billy J. Stewart Memorial Fund. All donations will be used for his grandchildren’s college fund, in care of Allnutt Funeral Service.
