— The funeral for Gertrude Johnson Cosby, 89, of Athens will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Spry Funeral Home with Robert Fudge and Donnie Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Visitation is from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cosby died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at home.

Gertrude Cosby was born Dec. 22, 1922, in Limestone County. She retired from Redstone Arsenal and was a member of Ephesus Church of Christ in Athens. Mrs. Cosby was well known for her beautiful flower garden. She taught crocheting and knitting for several years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, H.E. “Jack” Cosby; daughter, Judith Cosby Beirne; and brother, Leroy Johnson.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Cosby Martin of Gales Creek, Ore.; sons, Gerald Cosby of Portland, Ore., and Ken Cosby of Athens; sisters, Myra Middlebrooks of Jackson, Tenn., and Betty Halford of Atlanta; grandchildren, Dawn Cosby Blakely, Gelia Cosby McWhirter, Erin Cosby Moran, Tim Bates, Corrie Bates, John Phillips, Sharon Legg, Laurie Davis, Heather Beirne and Michael Beirne; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Jacob McWhirter, Landon McWhirter, Logan McWhirter, Luke Johnson, Britt Walker, Cody Menna, Richard Aydt, Ricky Clardy and Leroy Johnson Jr.

Honorary pallbearers are Tim Bates, Noah Moran, Ben Blakely, Wayne Kuykendall, Albert Haraway, elder and deacons of Ephesus Church of Christ.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.
