Shelba Bates

— Shelba Presson Bates of Athens died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.

She was born Oct. 11, 1936, in Benton County, Tennessee, to Carnell and Marie Presson. Mrs. Bates graduated from Camden High School with the Class of 1954.

Visitation is 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at Spry Funeral Home. A 4 p.m. graveside service will follow at Roselawn Cemetery with Dr. Edwin Jenkins officiating.

Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her parents and two infant siblings, Billy Presson and Shirley Dean Presson.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Hugh F. Bates Jr.; her son and his wife, Glen and

Kathy Bates; her daughter, Beth Bates; and two grandsons, Christopher and his wife Rachel Bates, and

Adam Bates.

Shelba was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and a member of First Baptist Church. She loved her family and friends dearly.

Pallbearers are Christopher Bates, Adam Bates, James Agee, Joe Daly, Joe Anglin, Kenneth Lewter, Carter Whiteside and Geoffrey McClain.

Memorial donations may be made to Athens-Limestone Hospital Foundation or First Baptist Church

Building Fund.
