Student writes: I Am a Brave American Flag

— I am a brave American flag.
I have been around the whole world. People have shot at me or have shot me. I have been in dust, sand, dirt, water, grass, mud and leaves. I am not afraid to get dirty. I see guns every day. I also see people get killed.
I jump on rocks and fall in thorns, it hurts. If you are like me you forget about it. I build schools for little kids. Sadly other people put bombs in the schools. I protect my country. I have marched in parades and flew on a plane. I’ve fallen down, but got right back up like nothing happened. I leave behind family and friends to travel to foreign countries to fight for your freedom and protection. I have met many important people in my life. I am saluted when people see me. The stitching around me eventually becomes unraveled, I must be resewn. I have been worn by governors, senators, presidents and all branches of the military. I am proud to represent the United States of America.
Collin is a sixth-grade student at Athens Intermediate School, wrote the item above as an assignement. Collin’s cousin is serving with the U.S. Army in Iraq.
