The News Courier
It was with much sadness Friday when we, as a newsroom, gathered around our break room television and watched in horror the events out of Connecticut.
We cannot even begin to imagine the heartbreak and sadness these families must endure for the days, weeks, months and years to come. It was no surprise that our own president — a man who must serve as a pillar of strength in times of great trials — was choked up during his brief press conference.
As news practitioners, we have become partially desensitized to violence and evil. The news Friday, however, was a gut punch to us. The fact that so many young, innocent children had been murdered made the punch sting all the more.
We, like millions of others around the world, will be praying for the victims of this horrific crime. We hope the families find peace and comfort during their long journey of sorrow.
We also hope those investigating the crime act swiftly to uncover the truth that will bring closure to those affected.
