Honor farmers, ranchers on National Ag Day

— Agriculture is a major part of the heritage of Athens and Limestone County.

The cotton boll is the focal point in the city logo and county seal and there is an abundance of farmland in every direction.

Our hardworking farmers and ranchers also brave the elements to make sure their crops and livestock are cared for so we can have food, clothing and, even, fuel.

On Tuesday, National Ag Day, we should stake a moment to appreciate what they do for us from sun up to sundown every day.

This year’s theme is “Agriculture: 365 Sunrises and 7 Billion Mouths to Feed.”

Please help honor our farmers and ranchers – a selfless group of individuals who make up a tiny percentage of our population yet are responsible for products that enhance and preserve our quality of life.

Even in times of drought and severe weather, they can be found in the fields and pastures working to ensure that our tables and closets will not be bare.

None of the contributions of our farmers and ranchers should be taken for granted, because no one can live without agriculture.

American agriculture – and Limestone County – add to our quality of life.

We thank you.
