The Athena League will be kicking off Apple Annie Week with their 10th annual Golf Tournament and Charity Party at Canebrake Golf Club Oct. 7.

Registration for the tournament begins at noon. A shotgun start for the four-person scramble will take place at 1 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will go to Habitat for Humanity and the Child Advocacy Center. The Athena League will also donate a portion of the proceeds to the Athena League Scholarship Fund.

The entry fee is $500 per team or $125 per player. The fee includes a ticket to the post-tournament charity party, dinner, on-course beverages and door prizes. Prizes will be awarded for two flights based on team scores. McClary Ford will sponsor a hole-in-one opportunity.

Tickets to the party can be purchased from Athena League members for $15 each. The band Juice will be the entertainment for the night. Dinner is also included in the ticket price.

Members of the club are also selling raffle tickets for $2 each. Those who purchase tickets will have the chance to win a $1,000 gift certificate from Osborne’s Jewelers, a Scott Kay bracelet from Hobbs Jewelers or a $100 gas card from Watkins Oil Co.

This year marks 40 years of Apple Annie fundraising. Over the years, the club has raised close to a half-million dollars and donated thousands of volunteer hours to benefit non-profit organizations representing women and children in the Limestone County area. For many years, Apple Annie fundraising consisted of members dressing in classic red aprons and selling apples to local schools and businesses.  To commemorate this anniversary, members and associate members will be selling apples in Athens City Schools on Tuesday, Oct. 11 and on the four corners of the Athens square on Thursday, Oct. 13.

The Athena League will also sponsor Isom’s Orchard’s upcoming fundraiser “Dinner in the Orchard” on Oct. 15.
