East tops Wilson to advance

EAST LIMESTONE

The East Limestone High School softball team advanced to the second sub-state round of the playoffs after dominating Wilson Tuesday.

The Lady Indians cruised to a 15-3 win in the first game and continued to roll in the second game, winning 10-0.

In the first game, East gave up a pair of runs and committed two errors in the top of the first inning.

Morgan Franks settled down from there and picked up the win on the mound, giving up two hits and striking out three in four innings of work.

Hallie Sandberg pitched the final inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Kayla Sneed led the Lady Indians at the plate with a pair of singles and a home run. She had three RBIs in the game. Staci Johnson hit a pair of singles, a triple and drove in three runs for East.

Carly Rhodes doubled and tripled to record two RBIs white Cassandra McKinney hit a triple and had two RBIs.

Lacee Doucette hit a pair of singles, Franks hit a double and had two RBIs, while Bess Rhodes and Danielle Holder had an RBI and a single each. Jyssica Pepper rounded out the offense with a double for East.

Sneed earned the win in game two. In three innings of work, she recorded three strike outs, walked one and gave up one hit. Sandberg pitched the final two innings, striking out two.

Sneed hit a pair of doubles and had an RBI. Johnson singled, doubled and drove in a pair of runs for East.

Pepper singled, doubled and drove in one run, while Carly Rhodes hit a pair of singles and had one RBI.

Franks, McKinney and Doucette each hit a single and had one RBI. Holder and Katherine Looney both singled for the Lady Indians.

With the wins, East will travel to Corner for the second sub-state round. The series begins Saturday at 3 p.m.
