East eliminated
The East Limestone softball team lost a hard fought battle in the second round of Sub-State play on Saturday at Corner Community Park.
The No. 7 ranked Lady Indians and No. 6 ranked Corner faced off and battled it out until 9 p.m. for the opportunity to travel to Montgomery in the state tournament.
In the first game, Corner came out on top 4-0. Hallie Sandberg started the game on the mound and pitched the first two innings, allowing four hits and four runs. Morgan Franks came in and finished the game, striking out three and allowing one hit. East could only manage three hits in the game with Jyssica Pepper, Bess Rhodes and Kayla Sneed each hitting a single.
In the second game, East once again only had three hits, but combined with a couple of walks and an infield RBI ground out were able to come away with the 3-0 win. Kayla Sneed went the distance on the mound, striking out five and allowing four hits. Hitting for East, Rhodes and Sneed each had a single and one RBI. Danielle Holder had a single and Lacee Doucette had one RBI.
Game three was a pitcher’s duel with the game remaining scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when Corner took the lead 2-0. Franks took the loss for East, striking out four and allowing only two hits.
Offensively, the Indians left runners in scoring position in five innings, but couldn’t get the timely hits to score. Franks and Doucette each had a double and Staci Johnson had a single for the only three hits of the game for East.
