The Post 15 Senior Legion baseball team returned from Florence Sunday with a third place finish in the UNA-TNT Classic, a tournament that featured 16 teams from throughout the Southeast.
Post 15 opened play Friday with a 7-2 victory over Florence. East Limestone graduate Nathan Dumont led the Indians with three hits and four RBIs. East Limestone’s Corey Dunn added a double, while West Limestone product Jeremy White and Athens High’s Kyle Chronister each hit singles. Jordan Pugh, an Athens Bible graduate, got the win, throwing a complete game, giving up six hits while striking out six.
On Saturday, the Indians defeated the Boonville, Miss. Braves 13-1 and Hamilton 7-0.
Chronister had the big stick against the Braves, going 3-for-5 with a home run, two singles and five RBIs. Athens High graduate Tyler Dorning added a double and a single, while East Limestone graduates Daniel Tucker and Jared Laxson added a hit each. White also added a double. UAH signee Russell Addison pitched a complete game, giving up only three hits and striking out four.
Against Hamilton later in the day, Russ Sandlin led Post 15 at the plate with a double, single and three RBIs. Michael Clem added two hits, while Trey Richard, Dorning, Dumont and Dunn added a hit each. Mississippi State signee and Hartselle product Chad Girodo got the win, pitching three innings while giving up no hits and striking out four. Delta State signee Garrett Turrentine pitched in relief, going two innings, giving up one hit and striking out one. East Limestone’s Corey Dunn closed the game, giving up no hits or walks.
In the semifinals on Sunday, the Indians fell 8-2 to the Tennessee Blue Devils, a team made up of players who had played at least two years of college baseball. Dorning led Post 15 at the plate with two hits. Pugh, Chronister, Sandlin and Richards each added one hit. Dorning pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up five hits and striking out three. Dumont finished the game giving up two hits and striking out two.
Post 15 is in action again Friday in Columbia, Tenn. where they will participate in the Independence Day Classic.
