East Limestone basketball coach Dewayne Uselton has resigned.
East Limestone Principal Dennis Black confirmed the resignation Monday, saying Uselton’s decision was in the best interest of his family.
“He did an outstanding job at East Limestone and we are going to miss him,” Black said.
Uselton was a former basketball player at East and earned All-State honors while playing for the Indians.
He returned to his alma mater to coach and was an assistant for three years before moving into the head coaching position for the last two years.
Uselton guided the Indians to a 17-13 record this season including a 5-1 record in area play.
The Indians lost to Madison County 53-51 in overtime of the Class 4A, Area 14 tournament to finish as area runner-up.
They earned a spot in the sub-regional round of the state playoffs, but lost to Lawrence County.
Black said Uselton is taking a government job on Redstone Arsenal, effective immediately.
School officials will start the process of finding a new basketball coach as early as today. The job will be advertised for applicants.
“He did an awesome job and we were very blessed to have him even though it was for a short period of time,” Black said.
