Calhoun softball team preps for coming season

The Calhoun Community College softball team reported to campus last week in preparation for the upcoming school year.

The softball team was left with a void heading into the fall season, after six sophomores earned their associates degrees. Eleven freshmen have earned spots on the upcoming fall roster, including Tanner High School’s Christen Stephens.

Local hitting and pitching instructor Robert Slack will join the coaching staff this fall, bringing with him 10 years of coaching experience at Decatur High School. Slack will be in charge of the Calhoun-sponsored fall softball league.

Gil Loeser, a former assistant softball coach at St. Petersburg College and Hillsborough Community College in central Florida, is also new to the Lady Warhawks coaching staff.

“These two gentlemen bring a wealth of softball teaching experience to the Calhoun softball program in its fourth year of competition in fast pitch softball,” Calhoun softball Coach Nancy Keenum said.

The Lady Warhawks open their fall season on September 12 in Columbia, Tenn.
