COXEY—No matter what the obstacle is, Clements Coach Barry Daniel knows his team can adapt and overcome it.
After losing Kathy Bachelor, mother of a key player and huge supporter of the team, when she was killed in a wreck almost a week ago, the Colts battled through a tough and short week of practice. However, you couldn’t tell it Friday night.
Clements managed to gather up 281 yards of total offense in their 21-13 win over West Limestone Thursday night. Kathy's son, Seth, had 75 of those yards, as well as one touchdown and three interceptions.
“Seth played a phenomenal game.” Daniel said. “Our guys gave a great effort out there tonight. That’s typical of these kids. No matter what the obstacle is, they overcome it and I can’t ask for anything more than that.”
The Colts got on the board early in the first quarter on an 11-yard pass from Jamison Bridges to Bachelor with 8:15 remaining in the first quarter of play. Bronson Warren’s PAT was good for a 7-0 lead. West Limestone answered shortly after on a 3-yard run by Palmer Askew. The PAT was good, tying the game at seven.
The Wildcats threatened midway through the second quarter after Wesley Hughes intercepted a pass and ran it back 48-yards, however West Limestone was unable to score on the drive.
After back-to-back fumbles by both teams, West Limestone found the end zone at the 3:08 mark on a 3-yard run by Askew. Alex Taylor’s point after was no good.
Clements took the lead after 75-yard touchdown pass from Bridges to Lemac Askins. The Colts scored the only touchdown of the fourth quarter on a 24-yard pass from Bridges to Jess McElyea.
Jeremy White finished the game with 78-yards on four carries for the Wildcats.
In the night’s only other game featuring a local team, West Morgan outscored East Limestone 21-0 in the second half to take a 41-20 win over the visiting Indians. Sam Chaney scored two first-half TDs for East on 1- and 12-yard runs, while the Indians’ Colin Carter added a third score on a 6-yard run.
