COXEY — Barry Daniel’s Clements team isn’t about to throw in the towel, despite starting the season at 1-3.

Nor have they waved the white flag. Actually, it’s been the opposite in Colt country.

“The guys have been resilient,” Daniel said. “I think they’re more frustrated than anything.”

Clements snapped it’s two-game losing skid two weeks ago when they beat 2A, Region 8 opponent Phil Campbell on the road. The 42-24 win also notched the Colts first region win of the season. A loss to Tanner last Friday dropped Clements to 1-2 in region play, but according to Daniel, his team isn’t out of the playoff hunt yet.

“It’s not a must win situation for us the rest of the season,” Daniel said. “Last year we were able to get in with three losses, and right now we’re in the same position we were last year. It just means next week’s game is going to be big. We would like not to lose another one, though.”

Friday, the Colts get a break from region action as they host Elkmont in only their second home game of the season, a game in which a win or loss may not count toward the post season.

“With it being a county rivalry, it’s more of a pride game,” Daniel said. “We haven’t won a week five game in a while, but if we can get one, it sure would help our record.”

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at M.T. Newman Stadium.
