TANNER – Most coaches will tell you they don’t believe in Friday the 13th jinxes, but after what Tanner coach LaRon White saw Friday night he may be a believer now.
The Rattlers beat Hatton 19-7, but it wasn’t easy.
Tanner lost a fumble on the opening drive of the game, but regained possession when Hatton lost a fumble in the red zone. On the next play of the game, Tanner lost a fumble on the Hornets 1-yard line.
Tanner turned the ball over five times and Hatton turned it over four times in the game.
Hatton made Tanner pay for the turnover on the ensuing play when quarterback Tevin Tererell scored on a 1-yard run. The Hornets’ extra point attempt was good.
Tanner struck back late in the first quarter when quarterback Demarcus King hit Rod Byrd on a 31-yard touchdown pass. George Adams made the extra point to tie the score 7-7.
The Rattlers took the lead in the second quarter when Jarquise Peoples scored on a 3-yard touchdown run. Tanner’s extra point attempt failed due to a bad snap.
Tanner got on the board again late in the second quarter when Tim Mason scored on a 35-yard touchdown run.
King finished the night with 113-yards passing.
Peoples led the Rattlers’ rushing attack with 152-yards and a touchdown.
Tanner travels to Winston County next Friday for another Class 3A, Region 8 game.
