Saban, Alabama downplay big-game hype

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — No. 3 Alabama coach Nick Saban is adamant that he doesn’t want his team’s approach to change with No. 9 LSU visiting.

Saban borrowed Monday from Joe Girardi, saying the Yankees manager said the best way to close out the World Series was to play good baseball.

Saban said he wants the Crimson Tide to focus on playing good football and think about what they have to gain, not what they could lose. Alabama could clinch a spot in the SEC championship game with a win Saturday, or LSU could move into the driver’s seat.

Tight end Colin Peek is trying to work his way back from a sprained knee. Saban said the team’s No. 2 receiver was day-to-day. Running back Terry Grant and defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick are also day-to-day with pulled muscles.
