Local high school sports fans can expect a few changes when their team is in action beginning next school year.

The Alabama High School Athletic Association Wednesday released new alignments for football and basketball that will be in place until 2012.

Tanner will remain in Class 2A but will move from Region 8 to Region 7 in football. The switch now puts the Rattlers in a region with Cleveland, Cold Springs, Falkville, Fultondale, Oakman, Sumiton Christian, West End Walnut Grove and Westminster Christian.

Clements made the move up to Class 3A from 2A and will be in the same region with Elkmont, Colbert County, Danville, Lauderdale County, Rogers, Sheffield and West Morgan.

With the move up to Class 4A, West Limestone will be in the same region with Ardmore, Brooks, Central Florence, Deshler, East Lawrence, Priceville and Wilson.

Both Athens and East Limestone remain in Class 5A, Region 8. Columbia and Lawrence County will be the two newest teams to the region with Hartselle being moved to Region 7 and Butler moving down to Class 4A.

In basketball, Tanner will be in Area 15 with Cleveland, Falkville, New Century and Westminster Christian.

Clements will join Elkmont in Area 15 with Danville and West Morgan. Both Ardmore and West Limestone will join Butler and Catholic-Huntsville in Class 4A, Area 15.

East Limestone will be in Class 5A, Area 15 with Columbia, J.O. Johnson and Lee Huntsville, while Athens will be in Area 16 with Lawrence County, Muscle Shoals and Russellville.
