ELKMONT — Brothers Jordan and Cody Martin are use to being on the same playing field with their cousin Darius Cosby.
The three have grown up playing sports since they were little. But over the past couple of years, both Jordan and Cody, along with Cosby, have been spending a little more time with each other and have created memories of a lifetime while doing so.
In 2007 the three were apart of Elkmont’s first ever playoff team. Last season, they were apart of the same team that finished as Class 3A, Region 8 champions, claiming home field advantage for the first two rounds of the state football playoffs. Tonight, all three will try and help the Red Devils advance past the first round again when they take the field against Vinemont.
“It’s just another week,” Cosby said of tonight’s match up. “We’ve just been approaching it as another game.”
Since Don Jacobs took over the Elkmont program three years ago, the Red Devils have carried a “Win one more” mentality into each season. And it’s something they’re taking with them into the playoffs.
“Win one more can go a long way in this playoff deal,” Jacobs said. “There aren’t but five weeks left, so this is sort of a stepping stone.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Boss Hill Stadium.
The streak continues
Heading into tonight’s first round of the Class 2A playoffs, Clements carries a six game winning streak. The Colts will try to continue the streak when they travel to Winston County to take on the Yellow Jackets.
And while Winston County may carry a 8-2 record and a top 10 ranking into the game, that’s not phasing Barry Daniels team any.
“Practice has been really good all week,” Daniel said. “ They’ve approached it very business like and all the positive things that can happen have.
