Ardmore's Reed, Hodges ink D-I scholarships

Athens' Caldwell, Medley sign with UNA

— There was a lot of activity over the past few days as several area high school seniors signed letters-of-intent to continue their athletic careers at the next level.

The early signing period for basketball, baseball, golf, softball and others ends Wednesday; it began Nov. 13. After that, students in those sports must wait until April 16, 2014.

The initial signing day – also known as National Signing Day – for football, soccer, track and cross-country is Feb. 5, 2014.

A pair of Ardmore High School students put their signatures on the dotted line in ceremonies Monday.

Pitcher Cody Reed signed with Vanderbilt and golfer Lee Hodges is taking his talent to the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

Last week, an Athens High duo committed themselves to the University of North Alabama.

Brianna Caldwell will play volleyball for the Lions and James Medley will tee it up for the UNA golf team.
