Fyffe is next
The Rattlers will play Friday at No. 4 Fyffe for the opportunity to play at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa on Dec. 6 for another Blue Map trophy.
The Red Devils (12-1), whose Long-Ridgeway Stadium is a 93-mile trip east from Tanner, took down second-ranked and previously unbeaten Lanett, 31-6, to move into the semis.
White, who has a 22-9 playoff record and 116 wins overall in 11 seasons, characterized Fyffe’s style of play as “gritty.”
“Fyffe throws the ball quite a lot, and they have a good offense,” he said. “It’s kind of a deceptive offense — they’ll run a speed sweep and try to lull you to sleep and then throw a pass over your head.”
Tanner advanced through the first two rounds by fending off Woodland, 41-29, and staging a fourth-quarter comeback against North Sand Mountain, 27-17.
Fyffe walloped Isabella, 56-30, and got past Walter Welborn, 35-21, in its first two postseason contests.
In other 2A quarterfinal games, No. 3 Washington County (12-1) beat unranked Mobile Christian, 56-42, and No. 9 Sweet Water (10-3) upended sixth-ranked Luverne, 34-24.
