Ardmore stays unbeaten

Tigers trip up Randolph 36-16

JONES VALLEY — Ardmore continues to flourish under first-year head coach Clint Legg as the Tigers dispatched Randolph 36-16 on Friday night in Class 4A, Region 7 action.

Ardmore is off to its first 4-0 start in nine seasons, while Randolph drops to 2-2.

Ardmore quarterback Garrett Miller completed 5 of 9 passes for 66 yards with one passing touchdown and a rushing TD and no interceptions. Josh Meloon, Braydon Edwards and Chris Welling propelled the Tigers’ rushing attack with 43 carries for 284 yards and three scores.

Edwards led off early in the first quarter with a 4-yard TD run, followed by a 2-point run by Ricky Lowery. Meloon scooted in from the Randolph 4 and Ryan Green converted the extra-point attempt to give Ardmore a 15-0 advantage.

The Raiders responded with a Jack Harper 23-yard field goal late in the first. Miller tossed a touchdown pass to Hayden Durrett and Green hit the PAT with 9:50 left in the second quarter to push the lead to 22-3.

Welling joined the Tigers’ TD party with 9-yard run with less than two minutes remaining in the third. Miller scored on a 6-yard QB keeper, and Welling added a 2-point run to make it 36-3.

Randolph lit up the scoreboard twice during garbage time, with a 29-yard pass from Miller Bethea to Nick Madeloff and a Harper PAT and a 1-yard run by Will Scoggins in the game’s final three minutes for the final 36-16 tally.

Ardmore’s first-half defense held Randolph to negative 4-yards rushing and forced three turnovers, including two interceptions by Dominic Clemmons.

Edwards compiled a team-high 107 yards on 18 carries, Meloon rushed 15 times for 92 yards and Welling had 10 for 85 yards. All three finished with a touchdown.

Ardmore (4-0, 3-0 Region 7) takes on 3A Clements (1-3) on Friday for homecoming in non-region play. Randolph (2-2, 1-2) hosts 3A Westminster Christian.
