— BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Vanderbilt second baseman Tony Kemp is the Southeastern Conference baseball player of the year.
The league's 14 coaches picked LSU's Aaron Nola pitcher of the year and shortstop Alex Bregman freshman of the year in awards released on Tuesday.,
Vanderbilt's Tim Corbin is coach of the year and Mississippi State's Sam Frost is the scholar-athlete of the year.
Corbin led the Commodores to an SEC-record 26 league wins and they have won 18 consecutive series dating back to 2012.
Kemp leads the league in hitting, on-base percentage, runs and stolen bases. Nola is 10-0 with a 1.94 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 102 innings.
Bregman is batting .378 with 16 doubles, seven triples and 49 RBIs.
LSU had four first-team All-SEC picks while Vanderbilt and Mississippi State each had two.
