Ex-Auburn safety Florence transfers to Troy

ATHENS — TROY, Ala. (AP) — Former Auburn safety Erique Florence has transferred to Troy.

Florence reported to campus on Tuesday and will participate in the Sun Belt Conference team's fall camp. He is expected to have to sit out this season under NCAA transfer rules but coach Larry Blakeney says Troy might apply for a waiver.

Florence was among the nation's top safety prospects in 2011. The Tigers' top-rated in-state signee, he led Auburn freshmen with 23 tackles that year and saw action in all 13 games.

Florence's playing time dwindled last season. He played in only seven games and had eight tackles.
