Jax State's Bishop ties NCAA mark with 10 ABs

— JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Jacksonville State's Michael Bishop tied an NCAA Division I record with 10 at-bats, getting his fifth hit of the game in the bottom of the 17th inning to beat Kennesaw State 9-8 on Sunday.

Bishop, a senior outfielder from Pelham, Ala., singled up the middle with two outs to end the longest game in both schools' histories. Bishop's 10 at-bats tied the mark set previously by six others, most recently by Kent State's George Roberts and Derek Toadvine in a 21-inning NCAA tournament victory against Kentucky in 2012.

Jacksonville State (6-4) set 10 school records and tied another in the game, which lasted 5 hours and 43 minutes, and featured a total of 591 pitches — 287 by 10 Jacksonville State pitchers, and 304 by seven Kennesaw State hurlers.

Michael McCreless (1-0) pitched five scoreless innings for the win, while Cole McArthur (0-1) took the loss for Kennesaw State (7-6).
