'Bama holding ceremony to remember late Athletic Director Moore

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — The University of Alabama is remembering athletic director Mal Moore just days after his death.

The school will hold a ceremony honoring Moore and celebrating his life Thursday afternoon in Coleman Coliseum.

Moore died Saturday less than two weeks after retiring from the job he held since 1999. He first came to Alabama in 1958 as a quarterback under coach and mentor Paul "Bear" Bryant.

Moore was part of Crimson Tide athletics decades as a player, coach and administrator.

Perhaps most notably as athletic director, the 73-year-old Moore hired Alabama football coach Nick Saban in 2007. Saban has since brought three national championships to Tuscaloosa.

The memorial event is open to the public. Denny Chimes will toll in honor of Moore afterward.
