North girls best South in all-star soccer match

Hoover — Area soccer players Bristol Countess and Miranda Huddleston took part in the North vs. South all-star soccer match Tuesday night in Montgomery.

The North won the match handily 5-2 and Countess registered three shots, two of which were on goal.

In her junior year at East Limestone, Countess had 19 goals and 12 assists in 22 starts for the Indians.

Huddleston didn’t have any numbers in the all-star game Tuesday but her junior year stats at Athens last season of 241 steals, three goals and six assists sent her to Montgomery.

The North won the match thanks to Northridge’s Amanda Baker’s hat trick and Briarwood Christian’s Claudia Day’s two goals.

With 39:59 gone in the first period, Baker found the net for an unassisted goal to give the North a 1-0 lead.

Just 40 seconds into the second period, Day scored her first goal, assisted by Chelsea’s Britne Holderby who registered three helpers during the match.

The score was 3-0 when Day and Holderby hooked up again at 59:53 for a goal and assist.

Baker blew the game open when she tallied her second goal of the match, assisted by Holderby to make it 4-0 North at 65:33.

One minute later the South put North goalie Alexandra Carroll’s shutout by the boards when Alabama Christian’s Hampton Brinson scored an unassisted goal to make it 4-1.

Any hope of a South comeback was snuffed out quickly when Baker scored her third goal late in the second period to make it 5-1.

With time running out, Trinity Presbyterian’s Jane Hampton scored an unassisted goal for the South to make the final 5-2.
