— TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Former Alabama running back Santonio Beard has been jailed in Tuscaloosa.
Online arrest records show that Beard was placed in the Tuscaloosa County jail on Sunday. The Tuscaloosa News reported Monday (http://bit.ly/WDFz87) that Beard, 33, is charged with violating probation.
He was arrested in October 2009 after police say he tried to sell cocaine three times to an undercover officer and pleaded guilty to distribution of a controlled substance.
The newspaper says Beard is living in Nashville, Tenn., and was charged there with aggravated burglary and violating a protection order in October.
Beard left Alabama after rushing for 811 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior in 2002. He signed a free agent contract with the Denver Broncos but was released after the 2004 season.
