Yes! We have no bananas (spilled)

State troopers had to deal with a slippery situation early Wednesday, April 29, on Interstate 565 about a mile south of the Tennessee state line.

An 18-wheeler hauling a load of bananas overturned near the 365-mile marker about 1:30 a.m., a state trooper spokeswoman said.

But an incident that could have turned into a monkey’s smorgasbord was averted. None of the cargo spilled from the truck’s container, and the bananas were safely offloaded to another truck.

“We didn’t have anyone slipping on banana peels,” said spokeswoman Rebecca Terry.

The driver of the 1999 Freightliner truck — Steven Rodgers, 46, of Cornersville, Tenn. — was not injured, the spokeswoman said.

No word on the bananas’ condition. But, whether bruised or broken, the bananas may still have value. Bruised bananas make good banana bread or banana pudding and banana peels can be used for shining shoes or nourishing rose bushes.

Anyway, it took a bunch of time Wednesday before all lanes of the interstate reopened.

One lane was still closed at 1 p.m. while a tow truck tried to upright the truck and container for towing, the spokeswoman said.

The troopers split the scene once all was clear.
