LOXLEY, Ala. (AP) — A Stapleton man accused of breaking into a woman’s home and raping her at knifepoint has been arrested after trained dogs from Holman prison in Atmore tracked bicycle tracks to his house.
Lt. Raymond Lovell said police arrested Charles Edward Raines about five hour after the reported incident.
Raines, who was taken to the Robertsdale jail, could have a court appearance in Bay Minette as early as Monday on charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree rape and assault.
Lovell said the rape occurred at about 3 a.m. The victim was taken to an area hospital, where she was treated and released. He said the 50-year-old victim and Raines knew each other, but she was not certain it was Raines becase the man’s face was covered during the attack.
