LOXLEY, Ala. (AP) — Authorities said two people have been killed in a fiery collision involving two 18-wheelers in the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 near Loxley.
Alabama State Troopers spokesman Cpl. Joe Piggott said the wreck occurred about 2 p.m. Wednesday is about 17 miles east of downtown Mobile and 22 miles west of the Alabama-Florida state line.
Names of the victims were withheld pending notification of relatives.
He said that the westbound truck was carrying a mixed load of several makes of automobiles, and many of those cars burned in the wreck. The eastbound truck was described as an intermodal truck, carrying a box-shaped container mounted on a frame trailer.
According to Piggott, the intermodal truck crossed the grass median from the eastbound to the westbound lanes and hit the auto carrier head-on.
