VANCE, Ala. (AP) — Mercedes-Benz is cutting the work week at its auto assembly plant in Vance. The German automaker said starting next month, its 4,000 employees will work four days a week.
Mercedes executives said the decision was based on sluggish sales.
Employees were informed about the changes Wednesday.
In late July, Mercedes previously announced it was reducing production of vehicles made at its plant.
The cutbacks also prompted some of Mercedes’s suppliers to reduce their operations.
