HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — A judge has denied youthful offender status for a 17-year-old Birmingham girl charged in the slaying of her adoptive mother in Madison County.
Jacqueline Richardson was arrested on July 27, 2007, and charged with murder in the death of 45-year-old Donna Louise Richardson of Toney.
Last week, defense lawyer Roy Miller asked Madison County Circuit Judge Karen Hall to consider his client’s age of 16 at the time of the slaying as a mitigating circumstance.
Prosecutors opposed Richardson’s bid for youthful offender status, citing the severity of the crime. Hall denied Richardson’s request, ruling she will be tried as an adult. No trial date has been set.
