House fire leaves girl dead in Decatur Associated Press DECATUR, Ala. (AP) — Authorities in Morgan County say a young girl died and two other family members were injured in a late night house fire in Decatur.
Decatur firefighters responded to the blaze on 2nd Street at about 11:00 p.m. Wednesday. The young victim was identified as 3-year-old Destiny Bates. Firefighters were able to pull two other family members from the dwelling. 40-year-old Tellusa Bates and her 9-year-old son, Tayrone, were injured and remain hospitalized. Investigators have not determined the fire’s origin, but said there was no electricity in the house and the family used candles at night.
